Join us for a beautiful hike in the Ape Cave lava tube on Saturday, July 13th. Prepare to see Mt. St Helens, the 3rd longest lava tube in America, and underground sights on this scenic hike. The trailhead is about three and a half hours away from Blessed Sacrament. We will be meeting at Blessed Sacrament in the parking lot at 5:00 AM. If you plan on meeting us at the trailhead, please plan on arriving there by 8:45 AM. Note that we will be entering the cave during the 9:00 AM time slot, so please be on time. Each vehicle must purchase a $2 ticket for the 9:00 AM time slot on July 13th, before driving to the cave on the 13th. (Purchases tickets here.)
We will be exploring the lower cave. This is an easy hike. It is 1.5 miles round trip with roughly 150 feet of elevation gain. Fr. Marcin will celebrate Mass as well! You can expect to be back at Blessed Sacrament around 3:00 PM.
Please be prepared to hike in a cold cave with good hiking boots, plenty of water, a headlamp, warm layers, a lunch, snacks, and waterproof clothing/layers in case of rain/mud. Hiking poles could also be helpful. If you are carpooling, please consider giving your driver $5-$10 for gas via Venmo or in cash. If you plan to drive your car to the trailhead, please note that this park requires a Northwest Forest Pass (or an America the Beautiful Pass), which can be purchased.
Hope to see you on the trail!
