Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord during the Liturgy. A lector should have a passion for Scripture, an ability to interpret and understand Scripture, and sufficient public speaking skills to proclaim the Word to the assembly. Training in the specifics of the ministry is provided throughout the year. Lectors are assigned on a rotating schedule.
To become a lector please contact Fr. Marcin through email at FrMarcin@uwnewman.org
Newman is very proud of our talented and generous music ministry. If you’re interested in singing or playing in one of our outstanding choirs (Sunday at 10am, 5pm, 7pm and 9pm; Wednesday at 9pm), you can show up one hour before any of Masses and/or email any of the choir leads.
Below is more information about our choirs including a description of their music style, the name of their lead, and how to contact them.
The 10am choir is led by Peter Molina. Send him an e-mail (firstname.lastname@example.org) or talk to him after Mass if you are interested in joining. They feature selections of traditional hymns that are typically heard in a local parish. They feature vocalists and a pianist, and would love to have you!
The 5pm choir is led by Twila McDonald. Catch Twila after Mass if you are interested in singing or playing an instrument for the 5pm group.
The 7pm choir (Sundays at Seven) is led by Joe Damitio. Send him an e-mail (email@example.com) or talk to him after Mass if you are interested in singing or playing an instrument. The Sundays at Seven plays contemporary Christian music and praise and worship songs.
9PM Candlelight Choir
The 9pm choir (Candlelight Choir) is led by Emily Carpenter. Feel free to email her at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining. They feature a prayerful, contemplative candle-lit aesthetic. The group sings primarily Taize, chants, motets, and traditional Breaking Bread songs. We would love to have more vocalists, or a back-up pianist.
Wednesday 9pm Music
The Wednesday 9pm ministry is also led by Peter Molina. Their style of music is similar to the Sunday 10AM choir with an emphasis on contemplative traditional songs in order to complement the candle-lit post-Adoration atmosphere.
